Thirty years of struggle finally gave Apollo cricket club a place in Dr. H.D Kanga cricket league A- division where they played their inaugural match with New Hind sports club at Matunga gymkhana here on Sunday.
Apollo, which is back after three decades, was formed in 1970. Founder and coach of Apollo cricket club, Farooq Patel is very excited and happy to see his team in the A-division. He remembers the day in 1972 where his team missed the place in the A-division, setting a target of 192 runs with the opponents on 62-9 where the last batsmen completed the target making a way for MIG cricket club in the final.
“I have achieved a lot and I would expect the same from my team.
Without taking any pressure the players should give their best because this game totally depends on luck”, said Patel.
Apollo has roped in many talented players who have the will to win this title. Aslam Sheikh the captain for this team has played for all the cricket tournaments in Mumbai. He started his career with Apollo in 1985. “We have hard working players and even our coach is very co-operative”, Sheikh said. The team also consists of Virendra Kambli, Nitin Surve Ranji Trophy player, Zameer Ali wicket keeper of Rizvi College. A strange fact is that the team has never practiced together because they don’t have their own ground but they carry a lot of confidence and look forward to win the tournament.

GET CONNECTED
Music is something, who can be your partner whenever you want. It may be the happiest or the saddest moment of your life. But it’s not only the music that helps you, in return you have to help music by involving yourself in it.
Yes, I did the same. Just listening to music made me feel incomplete in some way and I felt complete when I got myself a GUITAR. I started learning it, I sang songs, and playing guitar became my passion which turned into a craze. People need someone to share their secrets, but I have my most special friend besides me whenever I need him, be it day or night, he is there to take care of me. My thoughts flow from my mind to the guitar who conveys it to everyone, through my songs.
I know not many people know about this instrument, but I will make sure that everyone understands guitar through my perception. The most I strike each of its string and make a song out of it. Important part in the guitar is the strings, without which it’s impossible to play it. These six strings can compose any song and similarly they are truly connected to my life in the following way:
E- Excitement, it was my excitement that brought me close to my guitar. I was eager to learn it so that I could keep myself connected to music forever
A- Aru, yes I have my name in it so why should I stay away from someone who interprets my name in the best way.
D- Describes me, it helps me describe myself through the songs I play. When I am in a bad mood, the songs that come out are usually slow and filled with tears. When I am happy, it’s the latest fast songs full of energy and when I am in a romantic mood the best love songs change the whole atmosphere.
G- God, it helps me connect to my God. I talk to him through music. When I play the guitar all alone, I can feel him listen to me. He makes me feel stronger and more confident.
B- Best friend, as mentioned earlier he is my best friend. I love him the most, he listens to everything I speak, he helps me release my tension, and he is always there for me.
E- Express, I can express myself in the best possible way. When people listen to my songs and praise me, I feel satisfied and happy that I expressed myself.
From this I truly recommend everyone, that you may be in the worst phase of your life but it is only music that may help you get out of it. There are different ways to get with it, guitar, tabla, violin, piano and singing as well. So help yourself and forget every sorrow of your life, try it, it works.
